NC Aquarium

Head to this popular spot in the Lower Outer Banks to pick up interesting tidbits of maritime history. Free of charge, a highlight is the Crow's Nest on the museum's roof with spectacular views of downtown Beaufort, Taylor's Creek, and the famous lighthouses at Cape Lookout.
Fort Macon State Park
Explore this educational, historic fort for free, and wander around the top of the moat overlooking the ocean. Encounter cavernous brick rooms, sealed-off (and air-conditioned!) stations with special exhibits, and recreations of WWII life like the old mess hall.
