A must-visit for your Emerald Isle vacation, you can't miss this 1,000 foot-long pier jutting out into the Atlantic. Take in the fantastic views, spend a day fishing, and snap photos on the observation deck. Rods are available to rent onsite, with a wide selection of bait and tackle.
See the natural habitats of salt-water and fresh-water creatures. The kids will love the interactive pick-up tanks and activities like feedings. All ages can appreciate the exotic large fish like barracuda, sharks, sea turtles, and a fun, photogenic "dinosaur" exhibit.
North Carolina Maritime Museum
Head to this popular spot in the Lower Outer Banks to pick up interesting tidbits of maritime history. Free of charge, a highlight is the Crow's Nest on the museum's roof with spectacular views of downtown Beaufort, Taylor's Creek, and the famous lighthouses at Cape Lookout.
Fort Macon State Park
Explore this educational, historic fort for free, and wander around the top of the moat overlooking the ocean. Encounter cavernous brick rooms, sealed-off (and air-conditioned!) stations with special exhibits, and recreations of WWII life like the old mess hall.
Across the Intracoastal Waterway near Hammocks Beach State Park, this friendly city offers a wide variety of restaurants, including dining spots directly on the waterfront. Come for the shopping, boating, fishing, and weekly summer concerts in Olde Towne Square.
